Synopsis: This is a documentary about quickly changing cities. Artists make cities and communities more livable, but are often priced out by the rich developers they draw. Lofts, theaters, studios, and galleries are often replaced with high-rent, low-character high rises. How will artists find new ways to create space for community in cities that are being erased? Does art always have to be a wedge for the displacement of low-income and vulnerable populations? Seattle is faced with just this dilemma when news breaks that an old Victorian house space at 1634 11th Ave is being torn down to make way for a mixed-use apartment building. The theater-turned café and artist space is home to a literary center called Richard Hugo House, and in this documentary, co-founder and former executive director Frances McCue decides to capture what made the place so special. What comes to light is bigger than one building: gentrification, boom-bust cycles, colonization, and grief at the most intimate level. Haunting the film is the literary center’s namesake, Richard Hugo (1923–1982), a Boeing worker turned college professor and poet whose “triggering town” writing technique is still influencing poetry and place-making across the country. Hugo inspired generations of writers in the American West, and in this vivid experimental film, archival footage, animation, interviews with authors, and original poems combine to illuminate how poetry and place intertwine. In the end, a new model for sustaining the arts comes into view.

Synopsis: “The One and Only Jewish Miss America” is the surprising story of Bess Myerson, the talented beauty queen from the Bronx, and how she won the world’s most famous beauty pageant 75 years ago, at the tail end of World War II. The film follows Bess, the middle daughter of poor Russian immigrants, from her childhood in a one-bedroom Jewish housing project apartment through the suspense-filled pageant. Impressed by the college-educated musician, the judges chose her in spite of anonymous threatening phone calls and sponsor disapproval of a Jewish pageant winner. On her 1945 Miss America tour, Bess faced antisemitism and closed doors at race-restricted venues which did not allow Jews. It is also a story of courage as her disappointment turned to determination, leading Bess Myerson to start her own tour to teach tolerance at high schools and colleges around the country — a tour which launched her lifelong passion for justice.

Synopsis: Chepito’s travel diary. Chepito, alias Joseph Chevalier, an 87 year retired french farmer, helps small farmers in Nicaragua with many friends of the french NGO association Echanges et solidarité 44. He has 11 long stays in Nicaragua.

I accompany him in search of a seed drill that I had offered to the Nicaraguan peasants. His many friends testify to the situation in rural areas, during these 25 years after the revolution. Is it realy about ?

Synopsis: Witchwoods…reedited to include additional scenes and scary moments within the darkened woods of Tennessee. Go with Josh Fenton, his wife Sydney and their friends to investigate the famed Bell Witch. Sydney, knowing that her best friends, whom they have traveled to the world’s creepiest places, were having trouble in their marriages, sought a final adventure to reinvigorate their love for each other. Jackie, and her husband Hank, spoke of divorce and Josh’s brother, Jeff and his partner, Doug also wanted to go their separate ways. The news of her precious friends and family members splits devastated Sydney and she wanted to do what she could to help them realize what they would lose. So, Sydney convinced Josh to buy a tract of land in middle Tennessee that held a troubling legend attached to it. Stories and movies have been written about the infamous Bell Witch and how she terrorized all who dared to enter her woods. Though Sydney didn’t believe the legend, she wanted to get the group together for one final experience. The six friends, all young, energized and wealthy agreed to the two-week excursion into the woods. Bonnie, Sydney’s sister, who lived in Asheville North Carolina was a practicing witch and wanted to come along in case she was needed, though Sydney knew that she was just interested in the history of the location she chose and its infamous spirit that supposedly dwelled there. Along with their guide DR Rumble, they set out to debunk the myth of the Bell Witch and defy the legend of the Bell Witch.
