Joseph Isenberg received bachelor’s degrees in History and Political Science as well as a master’s degree in History from Iowa State University. His research emphasized medieval and ancient history in Iowa State’s Agricultural History and Rural Studies program. He earned a law degree from the University of Iowa College of Law. He practiced law for a number of years.

    He resides in central Iowa where he regularly participates in miniature wargames and role-playing games with the alumni of the Iowa State University Guild of Wargamers and Roleplayers. He has had a couple of role playing modules published in Chaosium’s “Call of Cthulhu” contest volumes. In 2021, he published his first novel, “Hot Halcon Nights: A Tale of the Pan-Galactic Empire.” He has published a number of short stories in anthologies with Quanta Publishing (Amazing Robots, and Stranded, as well as Noblis Oblige Stellaris, forthcoming), New Myths (The Growers, forthcoming), Three Ravens’ Publishing (Face the Storm, forthcoming). Together with Clayton Barnett, S. Donovan Croft, Grathew and Page Zaplendam, he contributed to In the Midst of a River, the first Lemur Throne anthology.
