Paul J. Hoffman is the author of three published nonfiction books, the owner of a book publishing company, and a former career journalist.

His first book, Murder in Wauwatosa: The Mysterious Death of Buddy Schumacher, was published in 2012 by The History Press. It is a true story of the disappearance of an 8-year-old boy in 1925 and the subsequent investigation into the boy’s murder. Wicked Columbus, Indiana, published in June 2017 by the same publisher, tells the true tales of some of that city’s more notorious stories. His most recent book, 200 Years of First Presbyterian Church Columbus, Indiana: Honoring Our Past, Building Our Legacy, was published in September 2024 by PathBinder Publishing LLC, the company Paul owns.

A native of Wisconsin, he spent 34 years in journalism, working as a sportswriter, news editor and special publications editor, finishing his career with nearly 20 years as special publications editor for the (Johnson County) Daily Journal and AIM Media Indiana.

He left journalism in 2019 and purchased PathBinder the following spring.

He has also acted in several community theater productions, including a starring role in Kalamazoo at Willow Leaves of Hope in February 2023. He has been an extra in two movies.

A graduate of Leadership Johnson County (2016) and former co-chair of LJC’s liaison committee, he has twice run for political office, enjoys walking and raising money for Huntington’s Disease research.

He lives in Columbus with his wife, children’s author Kimberly S. Hoffman. They have six adult children and a granddaughter.
