Sherry Howard’s middle grade novel, Spirits Among Us, won the Imaginarium’s Imadjinn Award for best children’s book in 2021. She pulled from her experiences growing up with a spinal cord disability for the main character of that book, and from her experience as a teacher and principal to create deep characterization.
A proud author from Kentucky, she enjoys writing a broad range of both fiction and nonfiction for children. Her background as an educator gave her an in-depth understanding of kids, especially middle grade kids and children with special needs. She has stayed in touch with the need to inspire children to be curious about the world around them, empathetic to others, and unafraid of failure. She has around twenty books published, most in the educational market.
Sherry’s a big fan of southern front porches, the roar of ocean waves, and the wisdom of Yoda. She loves socializing on social media. When she’s not writing, you might find her chatting with grandchildren, playing with their pampered dogs, or feeding the resident bearded dragon.
